About the Firm
Pamela J. Harbourt is a Certified Public Accountant with a Masters in Taxation, and licensed in multi-jurisdictions. Pamela attended the University of Maryland for her undergraduate education, with post-graduate attendance at George Washington University, and obtaining her Master's in Taxation from Bentley College in the Greater Boston area.
Pamela’s professional experience is extensive with in excess of 25 years in the profession. Prior to establishing her business she worked for some of the world’s largest business organizations, in various capacities, such as: State of New Hampshire as a lead multi-state/unitary auditor cross trained with the IRS; Nationale Nederlanden (currently ING) as Tax Manager of the Property & Casualty line of companies; Coopers & Lybrand in SALT located in the Boston, Massachusetts office, one of the original Big 8 international accounting firms; AT&T Capital Corporation as Tax Manager and member of the due diligence mergers and acquisition team; Mobil Oil corporation SALT and International Taxation; Columbia Energy, MICROS Systems, and U.S. FoodService as Tax Manager; coupled with government contracting and a strong financial background after years in public accounting; Halliburton and Accounting Manager for a health care provider.
A member of numerous professional organizations, Pamela understands the importance of keeping current with the profession's ever changing laws and regulations. While at AT&T Capital Corporation, in addition to her manager resposibilities, she was responsible for company training on the tax implications of leasing transactions, and at Halliburton for staff training of Sarbanes-Oxley. Her continuing professional education (CPE) credits are always in excess of the annual mandatory requirements. She especially enjoys: teaching college level accounting and taxation courses at local institutions; professional technical writing having been published in national tax periodicals; and volunteering as an instructor with a Northern Virginia small business counseling center. One of Pamela's areas of specialty is multi-state taxation, including multi-state unitary combinations and tax planning strategies.
Pamela has always been concerned with professional and general business ethics. This issue has increased in importance with the enactment of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX). Even if the law is not applicable to all her clients she pro-actively follows the application in her every day practice as the law is becoming the gold standard of the profession.
Currently Pamela sits as a Board Member for the Independence Empowerment Center (Manassas, VA), an organization supporting independent living for the disabled and actively participates on committees of the area Chambers of Commerce. Prior not-for-profit support included: Treasurer of the IEC; Audit Chair for the Prince William Chapter of the American Red Cross; Mobil Foundation (Mobil Oil Corporation) with tutoring of disadvantaged youth, volunteer driver for local hospital and county nursing homes during blizzards; Treasurer and Charter member of the Granite State Boardsailing Association, a water safety educational organization, and various animal rescue associations.
With multi-state client and business connections, as a citizen of Prince William County, Virginia, she proudly promotes the historical, geographic and demographic benefits of her local community.
